Since 2003, the UMA’s historically through its UMA Academy was the first awards organisation to support, mentor, invest and promote British talent who are today’s household names. For 17 years, the awards show has opened up the nominations/voting process for music fans to nominate and vote for their favourites in all categories. For the 17th edition of the UMA’s, the UMA Academy has extended its categories to encompass an ever-growing industry.

Jordan Kensington, Founder and Chairman of the Urban Music Awards commented “Urban Music in the UK has finally changed, the vision we set out to achieve over 17 years ago has happened. With 17th edition of the Urban Music Awards, there has to be a maturity that reflects the entire industry. There are a plethora of people who work behind the scenes to make artists successful. From managers to publicists, booking agents to producers, songwriters and many more and the UMA felt like it was integral at this level of growth in the industry to annually recognise and both celebrate their achievements each year and become the first Music awards ceremony to properly champion the front and backstage sector in one arena”

The UMA academy received over 3.2 million music fans nominating online. The artists/producers/organisations with the highest nominations are automatically shortlisted and the public is given the chance to vote for the winners in all respective categories for the 17th annual Urban Music Awards sponsored by Dechavel.com, TribeAll, Godgiven talent, Santa Ana and Dechavel Watches.
